Fond Memories

source

While a lot of people use January to look forward, I thought it would be fun to look backwards at something that is both a little bit trivial but also can stir up really strong reactions from people. Sounding serious? Not at all! I am talking telly.

The other weekend, a tv station here had a retro kids' shows weekend and I made a special effort to watch an episode of Fraggle Rock. Not because I have fond memories of it, but because so many others do. I wanted to see what I was missing. It didn't quite work for me, (sorry) though I love the theme song. Makes you feel happy almost immediately. Oddly, I also feel fond of Thundercats, even though I've never seen an episode, because an ex-boyfriend used to rave about how much he loved it when he was little.

As a kid, I wasn't allowed to watch a huge amount of tv- special Friday night musical rentals? Yes. A lot. My poor parents have probably seen Kiss Me Kate more times than they'd like to remember. But I do fondly remember Chip and Dale and from later years TGIF with Boy Meets World (obsessed!) and Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

It's funny what makes us feel a bit nostalgic or unlocks fun memories. I'd love to hear any memories you guys might have of favourite tv shows. Any first crushes? Any career decisions made because of characters or lessons learned? Maybe you'll introduce me to something new!

First crush, mulder (david duchovny) from the x-files, a show I began watching way too early because I wanted to be like my older cousin. Still love him, and the show!

We didn't watch a lot of TV growing up either and I fondly remember going to Overwaitea and renting movies AND the VCR to play them on. What a treat!

Ah...I think one of my first big crushes was all three boys from Boy Meets World (so that's early teens). Loved that show!
